Base cracker base Schmincke Rapid 200ml - 50071

Basic base for creating a cracking effect (cracking of the painting). Used in combination with cracker varnish 2 Schmincke (manufacturer's number 50075). It is transparent, fast drying, dilutable with oil paint thinners. App:

1) apply this base in a medium-thin layer (you can dilute it to 20-30 percent) to freshly dried, unpainted paint

2) leave the base on for 50-90 minutes

3) Apply cracker varnish 2 (manufacturer's number 50075) to the still sticky base and leave for one day

4) after another 24 hours, gently wash the varnish off the surface of the painting (unlike the base, it is water-dilutable, so just wash off with a cloth and water)

5) You can then use oil paints to highlight the cracks, we recommend for example Schmincke Mussini shade Vandyke brown

The size and frequency of cracks can be influenced by the amount of cracking base and cracking varnish. We recommend to try.
