The preparation serves to maintain the consistency of the colours even when heavily diluted with water. It gives the paints a pasty, buttery consistency. Maintaining the correct consistency allows smooth brush strokes, for example when applying glazes, even when the paint is heavily diluted with water. The thickening effect lasts only when working with wet paint. The medium also extends the drying time of the inks.

The recommended admixture of the product is up to 30% indoors and up to 3% outdoors. A higher admixture could compromise the film's resistance to moisture. A 1:1 to 1:10 admixture of the medium with water is recommended for painting glazes.

The product does not contain a binder. It's diluted with water.
